Sleep Dentistry Hamilton

Some patients may be nervous about a trip to the dentist. While it's necessary to get regular checkups if you wish to maintain healthy teeth and gums, we know that this is a hard truth for some of our patients. This is why we are excited to offer sedation dentistry, which allows our most anxious patients the opportunity to receive the care they need as comfortably as possible.

Sedation dentistry means that a patient is administered a form of sedative prior to their dental appointment. This sedative may be given orally or intravenously-at Upper Ottawa Dental we offer both options. We ensure that appropriate drugs are used for all of our patients, and that they are distributed properly so that they take effect before treatment begins. Whether our medications are given orally or through an IV, we give utmost attention to risk management so that you are safe throughout the process.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation options are given to our patients to be taken before their visit, so that the sedative will be active by the time their session begins. This option provides moderate control over anxiety.

IV Sedation

IV sedation treatment is a more powerful option. It alleviates a great deal of anxiety and is intended for patients with extreme fear of dentist visits. In this case, the patient's sedative is administered intravenously, and the medication is so effective that patients sometimes fall asleep during their treatment!

Sedation dentistry not only calms the central nervous system so that patient anxieties are mitigated, but it can also repress the sounds and smells of the dentist's office so that fearful associations with a dentist visit are also lessened. Best of all, since the patient is calm, more dental work can be performed in less time, meaning fewer visits may be needed.

At Upper Ottawa Dental we know that some patients find our office a little scary. Call us to learn more about our sedation dentistry methods and put your fears to rest!
